     Gilbert Grierson, 1st of Lag was baptised in 1353 at Dumfries-shire, Scotland.2 He was the son of Malcolm, 11th of Macgregor.1 He married Janet Glendinning, daughter of Sir Simon Glendinning of Parton and Lady Mary Douglas, before 1400.1 He died after 9 April 1425.2 He was buried at Old Dunscore Church Cemetery, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.2
     In 1400 he was granted the lands of Airde, Tyrcome, Overholm, Netherholm and Dalgarnock by charter from the 9th Earl of Dunbar, and took the surname Grierson.1 On 6 December 1408 he was granted the lands of Lag by Henry, 2nd Earl of Orkney, in exchange for an annual gift of a pair of gold suprs to be given to the Earl at Dumfries Castle.1 In 1410 he was granted the lands of Drumjoan by Archibald, 4th Earl of Douglas [S., 1357/8].1
