     William Matthews was born in February 1722.1 He was the son of William Matthews and Mary Ashman.1 He married Jane Hoskyns, daughter of Philip Hoskyns, on 18 September 1750.1 He died on 29 August 1799 at age 77.1
     William Matthews held the office of High Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1777.1 He lived at Llangarren, Wales.1 He lived at Burton Court, Herefordshire, England.1
