     Violet Gilliat was the daughter of J. G. Gilliat.1 She married Sir Henry Bucknall Betterton, 1st and last Baron Rushcliffe, son of Henry Inman Betterton and Agnes Bucknall, on 19 December 1912.1 She died on 5 October 1947.1
     From 19 December 1912, her married name became Betterton.1 As a result of her marriage, Violet Gilliat was styled as Baroness Rushcliffe on 24 January 1935.
