Lt.-Col. Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 3rd Bt.1

     Lt.-Col. Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 3rd Bt. was the son of Sir William Cockburn of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Helen Lermonth.2 He married, firstly, Mary Rochead, daughter of Robert Rochead of Masterton, on 8 April 1764.1 He married, secondly, Phoebe Sharman after 1766.1 He died on 13 March 1780.1
     He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Cockburn [N.S., 1671] circa January 1751.1 On 15 December 1757 he sold Langton and the office of Usher.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1760 in the 48th Foot at Quebec.1

     Mary Rochead was the daughter of Robert Rochead of Masterton.2 She married Lt.-Col. Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 3rd Bt., son of Sir William Cockburn of that Ilk, 2nd Bt. and Helen Lermonth, on 8 April 1764.1 She died on 5 September 1766.1
     From 8 April 1764, her married name became Cockburn.1

     Lt.-Col. Sir Williams James Cockburn of that Ilk, 4th Bt. was the son of Lt.-Col. Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 3rd Bt. and Mary Rochead.2 He died on 9 January 1800, unmarried.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 1st Foot.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Cockburn [N.S., 1671] on 13 March 1780.1

     John Cockburn was born on 22 April 1675.1 He was the son of Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt. and Grissel Hay.2 He married Martha Rich in 1720.1 He died on 12 December 1758 at age 83.1
     He was a surgeon at County Kilkenny, IrelandG.1

     Martha Rich married John Cockburn, son of Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 1st Bt. and Grissel Hay, in 1720.1 She died on 14 January 1756.1
     She lived at County Kilkenny, IrelandG.1 From 1720, her married name became Cockburn.1

Venerable William Cockburn1

     Venerable William Cockburn was born in 1721.1 He was the son of John Cockburn and Martha Rich.2 He married Susanna Savage on 10 December 1763.1 He died on 7 June 1776.1
     He held the office of Archdeacon of Ossory in 1762.1 He graduated with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.)1
