     Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 5th Bt. was born in 1723.1 He is the son of John Cockburn and Martha Rich.2 He married Laetitia Little, daughter of Luke Little.1
     Sir James Cockburn of that Ilk, 5th Bt. gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 35th Regiment.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General and Quarter Master-General for North America.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Cockburn [N.S., 1671] on 9 January 1800.1
