     John Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Stair was the son of Hon. George Dalrymple and Eupheme Myrton.1 He married Margaret Middleton, daughter of George Middleton.1 He died on 13 October 1789.1
     He styled himself as Earl of Stair from 1747 to 1748.1 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1690] on 27 July 1768.2 He succeeded as the 6th Baronet Dalrymple, of Stair [N.S., 1664] on 27 July 1768.2 He succeeded as the 5th Viscount Dalrymple [S., 1703] on 27 July 1768.2 He succeeded as the 5th Earl of Stair [S., 1703] on 27 July 1768.2 He succeeded as the 6th Viscount of Stair [S., 1690] on 27 July 1768.2 He succeeded as the 5th Lord Newliston, Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1703] on 27 July 1768.2 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1771 and 1774.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of Nationary Biography.3

     Margaret Middleton is the daughter of George Middleton.1 She married John Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Stair, son of Hon. George Dalrymple and Eupheme Myrton.1
     Her married name became Dalrymple.1 After her marriage, Margaret Middleton was styled as Countess of Stair on 27 July 1768.

     John Dalrymple, 6th Earl of Stair was the son of John Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Stair and Margaret Middleton.1 He died on 1 June 1821, without issue.1
     He held the office of Ambassador to Prussia.1 He succeeded as the 7th Lord Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1690] on 13 October 1789.2 He succeeded as the 7th Baronet Dalrymple, of Stair [N.S., 1664] on 13 October 1789.2 He succeeded as the 7th Viscount of Stair [S., 1690] on 13 October 1789.2 He succeeded as the 6th Earl of Stair [S., 1703] on 13 October 1789.2 He succeeded as the 6th Viscount Dalrymple [S., 1703] on 13 October 1789.2 He succeeded as the 6th Lord Newliston, Glenluce and Stranraer [S., 1703] on 13 October 1789.2 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] between 1790 and 1807.1 He was appointed Representative Peer [Scotland] from 1820 to 1821.1

     General William Dalrymple was the son of Hon. George Dalrymple and Eupheme Myrton.1 He married Marianne Dorothy Harland, daughter of Admiral Sir Robert Harland, 1st Bt., on 13 September 1783.1 He died on 23 February 1807.1
     He was Lieutenant-Governor of Chelsea Hospital.1

     Admiral Sir Robert Harland, 1st Bt. was born in 1715.1 He was the son of Captain Robert Harland.3 He married Susanna Reynold, daughter of Colonel Rowland Reynold and Mary Ann Duncombe, on 12 October 1749 at St. George's Chapel, Mayfair, London, EnglandG. He died on 21 February 1784 at Sproughton, Suffolk, EnglandG.1
     He was created 1st Baronet Harland [Great Britain] on 19 March 1771.

John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair

     John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair was born on 16 November 1784.1 He was the son of General William Dalrymple and Marianne Dorothy Harland.1 He married, firstly, Johanna Gordon, daughter of Charles Gordon of Cluny, on 28 May 1804.1 He married, secondly, Lady Laura Manners, daughter of John Manners and Louisa Tollemache, Countess of Dysart, on 2 June 1808.2,1 He and Johanna Gordon were divorced in 1809.1 He and Lady Laura Manners were divorced on 16 July 1811.2 He died on 22 March 1840 at age 55 at Paris, FranceG.1

     Johanna Gordon was the daughter of Charles Gordon of Cluny.1 She married John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair, son of General William Dalrymple and Marianne Dorothy Harland, on 28 May 1804.1 She and John William Henry Dalrymple, 7th Earl of Stair were divorced in 1809.1
