Sarah Westrop was born in 1770.1 She was the daughter of Beauchamp Bagenal.1 She married Colonel Philip Newton, son of Bartholomew Newton and Anne Bernard, in October 1785.1,2 She died on 17 January 1832.1

Philip Bagenal was born in 1796.1 He was the son of Colonel Philip Newton and Sarah Westrop.1 He married Georgiana Thomasina Boyd, daughter of Major James Boyd and Georgina Jocelyn, in 1838.1 He died on 24 June 1856.1
Philip Bagenal was baptised with the name of Philip Newton.1 He was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 On 6 March 1832 his name was legally changed to Philip Bagenal when he assumed the surname and arms of Bagenal only in lieu of his patronymic by Royal Licence. This was done accordance with the express wishes of his mother and his grandfather, from whom he thereby inherited the family estates.1 He lived at Benekerry, Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland.1
