     John Newton was the son of Colonel Philip Newton and Sarah Westrop.1 He married Janet Sempill Forbes, daughter of Alexander Forbes, on 2 July 1850, they had no children.1 He died on 22 October 1859.1
     John Newton held the office of High Sheriff in 1856.1 He lived at Bagenalstown House, Bagenalstown, County Carlow, Ireland.1

     From 2 July 1850, her married name became Newton.1 From 10 November 1863, her married name became Rawson.1
