     He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 11th Hussars.1

     Kathleen Mary Balfe was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Walter Balfe and Esme Mary Fitzgibbon.1 She died on 6 December 1954, unmarried.1
     She held the office of International Delegate, Catholic Women's League between 1924 and 1934.1 She held the office of National President, Catholic Women's League between 1927 and 1929, and again from 1933 to 1934.1 She was awarded the Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice in 1929.1 She was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.)1

     Frances Esme Balfe was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Walter Balfe and Esme Mary Fitzgibbon.1 She married Brig.-Gen. Frederic Arthur Bashford Fryer, son of Sir Frederic Fryer, on 30 January 1904, leaving issue.1 She died on 3 December 1946.1
     From 30 January 1904, her married name became Fryer.1
