     Thomas Barton was born on 21 December 1694.1 He was the son of William Barton and Elizabeth Dickson.1 He married Margaret Delap, daughter of Robert Delap, on 1 November 1722 in a cousin marriage.1 He died on 18 October 1780 at age 85.1
     Thomas Barton was the founder of a wine business in 1725 in Bordeaux, France, and acquired a considerable fortune.1 He purchased the estate of Grove House, Fethard, County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1752.1
