     John Otway Percy Bland was born on 15 November 1863.1 He was the son of Major-General Edward Loftus Bland and Emma Frances Franks.1 He married Louisa Nickels Dearborn, daughter of William Dearborn, on 29 November 1889 in a childless marriage.1 He died on 23 June 1945 at age 81.1
     John Otway Percy Bland was educated at Victoria College, Jersey, Channel Islands.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was the Private Secretary to Sir Robert Hart, with the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs between 1883 and 1896.1 He was the Secretary Municipal for Foreign Settlements between 1896 and 1910 at Shanghai, China.1 He was the Times correspondent from Shanghai, China, between 1897 and 1907.1 He was invested as a Order of the Double Dragon, Pao Hsing (China).1 He was invested as a Order of the Rising Sun (Japan).1 He was the Times correspondent from Peking, China, between 1907 and 1910.1 He was the author of twelve books, including eight about the East.1 He lived at Brudenell House, Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England.1

     Brig.-Gen. Edward Humphrey Bland was born on 3 May 1866.1 He was the son of Major-General Edward Loftus Bland and Emma Frances Franks.1 He married Bertha Mary Moore, daughter of Joseph Fletcher Moore, on 7 April 1894.1 He died on 15 February 1945 at age 78.1
     Brig.-Gen. Edward Humphrey Bland fought in the Miranzai Expedition in 1891.1 He fought in the Isazai Expedition in 1892.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1916.1 He was decorated with the award of Order of White Eagle of Serbia in 1916.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1919.1 He retired from the military in 1923, with the rank of Brigadier-General, late of the Royal Engineers.1
