Colonel Sir George Couper, 1st Bt. was born in 1788.1 He was the son of Robert Couper and Grace Stott.2 He married Elizabeth Wilson, daughter of Hon. Sir Justice John Wilson, on 20 June 1820.1 He died on 28 February 1861.3
Colonel Sir George Couper, 1st Bt. fought in the Battle of Copenhagen.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 92nd Foot.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lieutenant-General Earl of Dalhousie.1 He was Military Secretary in Canada to General Sir James Kempt and 1st Earl of Durham.1 He gained the rank of Colonel.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.).1 He was invested as a Knight, Hanoverian Order (K.H.).1 He was Comptroller of the Household to the Duchess of Kent.1 He was created 1st Baronet Couper [U.K.] on 23 June 1841.1
