     Lady Mary Maitland is the daughter of Charles Maitland, 3rd Earl of Lauderdale.1 A contract for the marriage of Lady Mary Maitland and Charles Carnegie, 4th Earl of Southesk was signed on 15 July 1691.1
     As a result of her marriage, Lady Mary Maitland was styled as Countess of Southesk on 15 July 1691. From 15 July 1691, her married name became Carnegie.1
