Maj.-Gen. Sir Herbert Stewart was born on 30 June 1843.1 He was the son of Reverend Edward Stewart and Louisa Anne Herbert.2 He married Georgina Janet Stirling, daughter of Admiral Sir James Stirling, on 19 December 1877.1 He died on 16 February 1885 at age 41 at Egypt, killed in action.1
