     Reginald Pepys Winnington-Ingram was born on 22 January 1904.1 He is the son of Rear-Admiral Charles William Winnington-Ingram and Ida Vere Maude Chambers.2 He married Edith Mary Cousins, daughter of Thomas Cousins, on 26 July 1938.1
     Reginald Pepys Winnington-Ingram was educated at Clifton College, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1925 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1929 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was Professor of Classics between 1948 and 1953 at Westfield College, London University, London, England.1 He was Professor of Greek Language and Literature in 1953 at King's College London, London, England.1 He was invested as a Fellow, British Academy (F.B.A.) in 1958.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) by University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1969.1
