     Colonel John Giffard was born in 1602.1 He was the son of Arthur Giffard and Anne Leigh.2 He married Joan Wyndham, daughter of Sir John Wyndham and Joan Portman.1 He died in 1666.1
     He fought in the Battle of Lansdowne Hill.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the royalist Devon pikemen.1 His property was sequestrated and he was imprisoned.1 After the Restoration he was one of the projected Knights of the Royal Oak.1 He lived at Brightleigh, England.1
