Sir William Gibson-Craig of Riccarton, 2nd Bt. was born on 2 August 1797 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2 He was the son of Sir James Gibson-Craig of Riccarton, 1st Bt. and Anne Thomson.1 He married Elizabeth Sarah Vivian, daughter of John Henry Vivian and Sarah Jones, on 29 August 1840 at Currie, Midlothian, Scotland.1,2 He died on 12 March 1878 at age 80.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Midlothian between 1837 and 1841.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Edinburgh between 1841 and 1852.1 He held the office of a Lord of the Treasury between 1846 and 1852.1 He gained the title of 2nd Baronet Gibson-Craig, of Riccarton, Midlothian [U.K., 1831] on 6 March 1850.1 He held the office of Lord Clerk Register and Keeper of the Signet for Scotland between 1862 and 1878.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.).1
