John Haldane was born on 22 December 1693.1 He was the son of John Haldane, 14th of Gleneagles and Helen Erskine.2 He married Helen Scott, daughter of David Scott.1 He died in January 1726 at age 32.1

Robert Haldane, 1st of Airthrey and 17th of Gleneagles was born on 16 March 1705.3 He is the son of John Haldane, 14th of Gleneagles and Helen Erskine.2 He married Elizabeth Oglander, daughter of Sir William Oglander, 3rd Bt., on 29 September 1742.3 He died on 31 December 1767 at age 62, without issue.3
Robert Haldane, 1st of Airthrey and 17th of Gleneagles gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Honourable East india Company Service.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Sitrling Burghs between 1758 and 1761.3 In 1759 he bought Airthrey from James Dundas of Manor.3 He held the office of Provost of Inverkeithing in 1760.3 In 1760 he bought Gleneagles from his half-brother Patrick.3 In 1766 he executed the entail by which his nephew George Cockburn inherited.3 He held the office of Provost of Inverkeithing between 1767 and 1768.3
