     Major Hamilton de la Poer Beresford was born on 20 September 1849.1 He was the son of John Gorges Beresford and Matilda Anne Eagar.1 He married Charlotte Sophia Cockburn, daughter of Captain William Peter Cockburn and Johanna Charlotte Forbes, on 24 April 1879 at Portsea, Hampshire, England.1,2 He died on 3 March 1942 at age 92.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Marines Artillery.1
