     He gained the rank of Captain in June 1716 in the service of the Royal Navy.2 He held the office of Governor of Newfoundland in 1732.3 He held the office of Governor of New York in 1741.3 He gained the rank of Admiral of the White in 1761.3

     John Chichester Knox was born on 5 April 1815.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. George Knox and Harriet Fortescue.2 He married Lady Louisa Georgiana Dawson-Damer, daughter of Captain Hon. Henry Dawson and Eliza Moriarty, on 3 March 1853.1 He died on 22 March 1884 at age 68, without issue.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 2nd Dragoon Guards.1
