     Mary Sylvia Calmady-Hamlyn was born on 9 August 1881.1 She was the daughter of Vincent Waldo Calmady Hamlyn and Emma Josephine Pease.2 She died on 10 June 1962 at age 80, unmarried.1
     She was educated at Wycombe Abbey School.1 In 1898 her name was legally changed to Mary Sylvia Calmady-Hamlyn by Royal Licence.1 She was invested as a Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.).1 She held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Devon.1

      In 1902 her name was legally changed to Hamlyn by Royal Licence.3 Her name was legally changed to Calmady-Hamlyn by Deed Poll.3
