     Vice-Admiral William Heriot-Maitland-Dougall was born on 3 July 1819.1 He was the son of James Maitland-Heriot and Margaret Dalgleish.2 He married Elizabeth Kinnear Dougall, daughter of William Stark Dougall, on 18 December 1851.1 He died on 7 March 1890 at age 70.1
     Vice-Admiral William Heriot-Maitland-Dougall was baptised with the name of William Maitland-Heriot.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Fife.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Fife.1 He was Colonel of the Fife and Stirling Volunteer Artillery, Tay Submarine Mines.1 He lived at Scotscraig, Tayport, Fife, Scotland.1
