     James Makgill Maitland-Heriot was born on 11 September 1774.1 He was the son of Captain Hon. Frederick Lewis Maitland of Rankeillour and Margaret Dick.1 He married Margaret Dalgleish, daughter of William Dalgleish and Jane Isabel Ogilvy, on 31 December 1813.1 He died on 26 April 1848 at age 73.1

     Margaret Dalgleish was the daughter of William Dalgleish and Jane Isabel Ogilvy.1 She married James Makgill Maitland-Heriot, son of Captain Hon. Frederick Lewis Maitland of Rankeillour and Margaret Dick, on 31 December 1813.1 She died on 28 January 1869.1
     From 31 December 1813, her married name became Heriot.1
