     David Makgill was the son of David Makgill and Elizabeth Forester.2 He married Mary Sinclair, daughter of Sir William Sinclair of Herdmanstoun, on 10 September 1583.1 He died on 10 May 1607,, with other issue:.1
     In 1585 he had charter of his lands.1 He held the office of a Lord of Session on 25 May 1597.1 He lived at Cranston Riddell, Midlothian, Scotland.1

     Mary Sinclair was the daughter of Sir William Sinclair of Herdmanstoun.2 She married David Makgill, son of David Makgill and Elizabeth Forester, on 10 September 1583.1 She died on 6 February 1606.
     From 10 September 1583, her married name became Makgill.

     James Makgill, 1st Viscount of Oxfuird is the son of David Makgill and Mary Sinclair.2 He married, firstly, Catherine Cockburn, daughter of Sir John Cockburn of Ormiston, circa 20 December 1621.1 He married, secondly, Christian Livingston, daughter of Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth, on 8 July 1646.1 He died on 5 May 1663,, having by her had, with two other sons (died in infancy):.1
     He had another son who died young.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Edinburgh in 1626.1 He was created 1st Baronet Makgill [Nova Scotia] on 19 July 1627, with special remainder to his heirs male whomsoever.1 He held the office of Sheriff Principal in 1628.1 He held the office of a Lord of Session on 3 November 1629.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Edinburgh [Edinburgh] in 1630.1 He held the office of a Commissioner of Exchequer in 1644.1 He was created 1st Viscount of Oxfuird [Scotland] on 19 April 1651, with remainder to his heirs male and of tailzie and provision whomsoever.1 He was created 1st Lord Makgill of Cousland [Scotland] on 19 April 1651, with remainder to his heirs male and of tailzie and provision whomsoever.1 He held the office of a Lord of Session in February 1660/61.1

     Catherine Cockburn is the daughter of Sir John Cockburn of Ormiston.2 She married James Makgill, 1st Viscount of Oxfuird, son of David Makgill and Mary Sinclair, circa 20 December 1621.1
     From circa 20 December 1621, her married name became Makgill.1

     James Makgill was the son of James Makgill, 1st Viscount of Oxfuird and Catherine Cockburn.2 He died circa January 1662, without issue.1 He was buried on 24 January 1662.1

     Andrew Makgill was born on 26 July 1630.1 He was the son of James Makgill, 1st Viscount of Oxfuird and Catherine Cockburn.2 He died circa 1656.1
