     Simon Marks, 1st Baron Marks of Broughton was born on 9 July 1888.3 He is the son of Michael Marks and Hannah Cohen.2 He married Miriam Sieff, daughter of Ephraim Sieff and Sarah Saffer, on 27 July 1915.3 He died on 8 December 1964 at age 76.3
     Simon Marks, 1st Baron Marks of Broughton was educated at Manchester Grammar School, Manchester, Lancashire, England.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) (Economics) by London University, London, England, in 1939.3 He was invested as a Knight in 1944.3 He was chairman and joint managing director of Marks & Spencers.3 He was created 1st Baron Marks of Broughton, of Sunningdale, co. Berks [U.K.] on 10 July 1961.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) by Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel, in 1962.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Manchester University, Manchester, Lancashire, England, in 1963.3

     Thomas Tilson Magan was born in 1798.1 He was the son of Arthur Magan and Hannah Georgina Tilson.1 He married, firstly, Sophia Willoughby Humphreys, daughter of William Humphreys.1 He married, secondly, Louisa O'Grady on 10 January 1850.2 He died on 27 August 1870.2
