Sir James Macaulay Higginson was the son of Major James Higginson and Mary Macaulay.2,3 He married, firstly, Louisa Mary Ann Shakespeare on 25 November 1835 at Calcutta, India.4 He married, secondly, Olivia Nichola Dobbs, daughter of Conway Richard Dobbs and Charlotte Maria Sinclair, on 11 November 1854.1 He died in 1885.1
He held the office of Governor of Mauritius.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1 He had four sons and four daughters by his second wife.1
