Field Marshal Sir Roland Christopher Gibbs was born on 22 June 1921.1 He is the son of Major Guy Melvil Gibbs and Margaret Olivia St. John.1 He married Davinia Jean Merry, daughter of Lt.-Col. Eion James Henry Merry and Jean Trefusis Crichton, on 27 October 1955.1
