     Stephen Tempest was born on 14 October 1689.2 He was the son of Stephen Tempest and Elizabeth Fermor.3 He married Elizabeth Lawson, daughter of Sir Henry Lawson, 2nd Bt. and Elizabeth Knightley, in April 1714.2 He died on 12 August 1771 at age 81.2
     He wrote the book Religio Laici.2 He lived at Broughton, Yorkshire, England.2 He also had a younger son and four daughters.2
