Sir James Grant of Dalvey, 1st Bt.1

     Sir James Grant of Dalvey, 1st Bt. was the son of Sweton Grant and unknown Farquharson.2 A contract for the marriage of Sir James Grant of Dalvey, 1st Bt. and Agnes Scott was signed on 8 April 1687.1 He died in 1695, without issue.1
     He held the office of Solicitor-General [Scotland].1 He bought Dalvey from another branch of the Grant family.1 He was a practising Advocate.1 He was created 1st Baronet Grant, of Dalvey [Nova Scotia] on 10 August 1688, with remainder to his heirs male whatsoever.1 On 15 May 1689 he was imprisoned in the Tolbooth Edinburgh for corresponding with the Jacobite Duke of Gordon.1
