     He gained the rank of Captain in the 62nd Foot.2 He was Colonel Commandant of the Clare Artillery.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) for County Clare.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Clare.2 He lived at Maryfort, County Clare, Ireland.1

     He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1885 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was Vice-President of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland between 1902 and 1905.1 He was registered as a MRIA.1 He was author of works on Irish antiquities.1
