He died on 6 May 1902 at age 77.

     Ellen Mary Cromie was the daughter of John Cromie. She married Lord Robert Montagu, son of George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester and Millicent Sparrow, on 12 February 1850. She died on 11 July 1857.
     Her married name became Montagu.
