Rt. Hon. Lord Robert Montagu was born on 24 January 1825.1 He was the son of George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester and Millicent Sparrow.2 He married, firstly, Ellen Mary Cromie, daughter of John Cromie, on 12 February 1850.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Catherine Wade, daughter of William Wade, on 18 October 1862.3 He died on 6 May 1902 at age 77.3
He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Antrim.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Antrim in 1855.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Antrim.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Huntingdonshire between 1859 and 1874.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.).1 He was vice-president of the Education Committee between 1867 and 1868.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Westmeath between 1874 and 1880.1
