     Arthur Phayre Grattan was born on 24 August 1874.1 He was the son of Colonel Henry Grattan and Fannie Sarah Susannah Ireland.2,1 He married Kathleen Frances Elaine Galloway, daughter of Lewis Stanley Galloway, on 28 April 1926.1 He died on 30 July 1953 at age 78.1
     He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He retired from the military in 1922, with the rank of Colonel, late of the Royal Marines Light Infantry.1
