Lt.-Col. John Grattan

     Lt.-Col. John Grattan was born on 2 February 1873.1 He was the son of Colonel Henry Grattan and Fannie Sarah Susannah Ireland.2,1 He married Muriel Bright, daughter of John Henry Robert Bright, in March 1902.1 He died on 26 April 1917 at age 44 at Mesopotamia, killed in action.1
     He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Coke's Rifles, Indian Army.3 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded.1

     Arthur Newton Forbes-Gordon was born on 22 January 1844.2 He was the son of Arthur Forbes-Gordon of Rayne and Charlotte Balfour.3 He married, firstly, Christian Dalrymple, daughter of James Dalrymple, on 22 October 1872.2 He married, secondly, Adeline Sarah Newton, daughter of Philip Jocelyn Newton and Henrietta Maria Kennedy, on 17 April 1876.3 He married, thirdly, Penelope Christie, daughter of Major Napier T. Christie, in April 1881.3 He died on 7 March 1930 at age 86.1
     He gained the rank of Captain and Adjutant in the 79th Highlanders.2 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Carlow.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Aberdeenshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Aberdeenshire.1 He lived at Rayne, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG.1

     Christian Dalrymple was the daughter of James Dalrymple.1 She married Arthur Newton Forbes-Gordon, son of Arthur Forbes-Gordon of Rayne and Charlotte Balfour, on 22 October 1872.2 She died on 25 October 1873.2
     Her married name became Forbes-Gordon.
