     Francis Herbert Loraine Petre was born on 9 March 1927. He is the son of Maj.-Gen. Roderic Loraine Petre and Katherine Sophia Bryans. He married Mary Jane White, daughter of Everard Charles Xavier White, on 19 April 1958.
