     He was a shipbuilder.1 He lived at Drums, Langbank, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1 At Ormsary, Argyllshire, Scotland, (an unknown value).1

     Sir James Lithgow, 1st Bt. was born on 27 January 1883.1 He was the son of William Todd Lithgow and Agnes Birkmyre.2 He married Gwendolyn Amy Harrison, daughter of John Robinson Harrison, on 11 September 1924.1 He died on 23 February 1952 at age 69.1
     He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He was Director of Merchant Shipbuilding, Admiralty between 1916 and 1919.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He was created 1st Baronet Lithgow, of Ormsary, co. Argyll [U.K.] on 1 July 1925.1 He was member of the Central Electricity Board between 1927 and 1930.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire.1 He was extraordinary directorry of the Royal Bank of Scotland.1 He was Member of the Board of Admiralty between 1940 and 1946.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the British Empire (G.B.E.) in 1945.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1947.1 He was awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau of the Netherlands.1
