     Rachel Cecilia Bingham was born on 9 April 1917. She was the daughter of Lt.-Col. Ralph Charles Bingham and Dorothy Louisa Pratt.1 She married Cuthbert James McCall Alport, Baron Alport, son of Arthur Cecil Alport and Janet McCall, on 26 October 1945.1 She died on 13 July 1983 at age 66.1
     Her married name became Alport. As a result of her marriage, Rachel Cecilia Bingham was styled as Baroness Alport on 16 February 1961.

     Cuthbert James McCall Alport, Baron Alport was born on 22 March 1912.1 He was the son of Arthur Cecil Alport and Janet McCall.1 He married Rachel Cecilia Bingham, daughter of Lt.-Col. Ralph Charles Bingham and Dorothy Louisa Pratt, on 26 October 1945.1 He died on 28 October 1998 at age 86.2
     Cuthbert James McCall Alport, Baron Alport was educated at Haileybury College, Haileybury, Hertfordshire, England.1 He graduated from Pembroke College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He held the office of President of the Union Society of Cambridge in 1935.1 He was a tutor between 1935 and 1937 at Ashridge College, Little Gaddesden, Hertfordshire, England.1 He wrote the book Kingdoms in Partnership, published 1937.1 He was an assistant secretary for the Conservative Party Education Department between 1937 and 1939.1 He fought in the Second World War, with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and the King's African Rifles in East Africa.1 He graduated from Pembroke College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1941 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1944 entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law.1 He was General Staff Officer (1) of the East Africa Command between 1944 and 1945.1 He was Director of the Conservative Political Centre between 1945 and 1950.1 He was decorated with the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1949.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Colchester between 1950 and 1961.1 He wrote the book Hope in Africa, published 1952.1 He held the office of Assistant Postmaster-General between 1955 and 1957.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Commonwealth Relations Office between 1957 and 1959.1 He held the office of Minister of State, Commonwealth Relations Office between 1959 and 1961.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1960.1 He held the office of British High Commissioner to the Federation of Rhodesia and Nysaland between 1961 and 1963.1 He was created Baron Alport, of Colchester in the County of Essex [U.K. Life Peer] on 16 February 1961.1 He wrote the book The Sudden Assignment, published 1965.1 He held the office of High Steward of Colchester in 1967.1 He held the office of Special Representative to Salisbury, Rhodesia in 1967.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Essex in 1974.1 He lived in 1998 at The Cross House, Layer de la Haye, Essex, England.1
