     Charles Hardinge, 1st Baron Hardinge of Penhurst was born on 20 June 1858. He was the son of Charles Stewart Hardinge, 2nd Viscount Hardinge and Lavinia Bingham. He married Hon. Winifred Selina Sturt, daughter of Henry Gerard Sturt, 1st Baron Alington of Crichel and Lady Augusta Bingham, on 17 April 1890. He died on 2 August 1944 at age 86.
