     Richard Farrer Herschell, 2nd Baron Herschell of the City of Durban was born on 22 May 1878.1 He was the son of Farrar Herschell, 1st Baron Herschell of the City of Durban and Agnes Adela Porcher.1 He married Annie Vera Violet Nicolson, daughter of Sir Arthur Thomas Bennett Robert Nicolson of that Ilk and Lasswade, 10th Bt., on 1 November 1919.1 He died on 14 October 1929 at age 51.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Herschell of the City of Durban [U.K., 1886] on 1 March 1899.1 He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.1 He was Private Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland between 1905 and 1907.1 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1907 and 1910.1 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1910 and 1919.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.1 He was awarded the Knight Grand Cross, Order of Dannebrog of Denmark.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.)1 He held the office of Lord-in-Waiting between 1924 and 1929.1

Agnes Adela Porcher1

     Agnes Adela Porcher was the daughter of Edward Leigh Kindersley Porcher.1 She married Farrar Herschell, 1st Baron Herschell of the City of Durban, son of Reverend Ridley Henry Herschell and Helen Mowbray, on 20 December 1876.1 She died on 23 February 1902.1
     From 20 December 1876, her married name became Herschell.1 After her marriage, Agnes Adela Porcher was styled as Baroness Herschell of the City of Durban on 8 February 1886.

     Annie Vera Violet Nicolson was the daughter of Sir Arthur Thomas Bennett Robert Nicolson of that Ilk and Lasswade, 10th Bt.1 She married Richard Farrer Herschell, 2nd Baron Herschell of the City of Durban, son of Farrar Herschell, 1st Baron Herschell of the City of Durban and Agnes Adela Porcher, on 1 November 1919.1 She died on 31 March 1961.1
     After her marriage, Annie Vera Violet Nicolson was styled as Baroness Herschell of the City of Durban on 1 November 1919. From 1 November 1919, her married name became Herschell.1

     Sir Arthur Thomas Bennett Robert Nicolson of that Ilk and Lasswade, 10th Bt. was baptised on 6 November 1842 at Morpeth Vale, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.2 He was the son of Sir Arthur Bolt Nicolson, 9th Bt. and Margaret Bisset.2 He married Annie Rutherford, daughter of John Rutherford, on 14 July 1881 at Sawrey, Lancashire, England.2 He died on 1 June 1917 at age 74 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland.2
     He gained the title of 10th Baronet Nicolson, of Lasswade, Midlothian [N.S., 1629] on 14 July 1879.
