     Captain George Cockburn was born illegitimately.1 He was the son of John Cockburn of Ormiston.1 He married Caroline Forrester, Lady Forrester of Corstorphine, daughter of Colonel George Forrester, 5th Lord Forrester of Corstorphine and Charlotte Rowe.1 He died on 23 July 1770.2
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Navy between 1756 and 1770.2

     Her married name became Cockburn.1 She succeeded as the 8th Lady Forrester of Corstorphine [S., 1633] on 26 June 1748.2
