     Sir Gilbert Ramsay of Balmain, 1st Bt. was the son of David Ramsay of Balmain and Margaret Ogilvie.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Auchinleck, daughter of George Auchinleck of Balmanno.1 He married, secondly, Grizel Durham, daughter of James Durham, in 1630.1 He died circa 1663.1
     He was created 1st Baronet Ramsay, of Balmain [Nova Scotia] on 3 September 1625, with remainder to heirs male whatsover.1 In 1636 he joined Covenanters (Presbyterians opposed to King Charles I's anglicanising tendencies in church matters.)1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Scotland Parliament) for Kincardineshire between 1639 and 1641.1 He held the office of Commissioner of Excise in 1646.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Scotland Parliament) for Kincardineshire in 1645/46.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Scotland Parliament) for Kincardineshire between 1661 and 1663.1

     Sir David Ramsay of Balmain, 2nd Bt. was the son of Sir Gilbert Ramsay of Balmain, 1st Bt. and Grizel Durham.2 He married, firstly, Margaret Carnegie, daughter of Sir John Carnegie, 2nd of Balnamoon and Lady Helen Ogilvy.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Coutts.2,1 He died in September 1673, killed in a fall from his horse.1
     He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet Ramsay, of Balmain [N.S., 1625]] in 1670, title regranted by charter his lands and barony.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Scotland Parliament) for Kincardineshire in 1672/73.1
