He was the son of James Hamilton Houldsworth.2 He married Katharine Charlotte Douglas, daughter of Major George Sholto Douglas and Lady Laura Mary Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, on 7 February 1921.2 He died on 9 October 1963 at age 67.2
     He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.)1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He was awarded the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) and bar.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.)1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Morayshire.2 He lived at Dallas Lodge, Forres, Morayshire, ScotlandG.1
