George Richard James Hennessy, 1st Baron Windlesham was born on 23 March 1877.1 He was the son of Richard Hennessy and Martha Lucy Hennessy.2 He married Ethel Mary Wynter, daughter of Charles Reginald Wynter, on 14 December 1898.1 He died on 8 October 1953 at age 76.
He was County Surrey (both UK).1 He lived Windlesham.1 He was educated Eton.1 He was Justice of the Peace (J.P.) Hampshire.1 He was also known as 1st Baronet [U.K. Life Peer].1 He gained the title of 1st Baron Windlesham. He fought in the Boer War.2 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the 3rd Batttalion, Cheshire Regiment.2 He was Major 3rd Battalion Cheshire Regiment Boer War (medal and three clasps), Member of Parliament (M.P.) (U) Winchester , High Sheriff Hampshire 1910–11, T/Maj 9th (Serv) Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps 1914–17 and General List, Aide-de-Camp to Gen in 1910.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.2 He was Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Treasurer of HM Household.2 On 24 January 1927 so created and 22 Feb 1937 respectively.1
