     James Menteth was the son of William Menteth and Christian Boyd.2 He married Gyles Durie, daughter of James Durie of Craigluscar, on 10 December 1684.1 He died in 1712, between and 1715.1

     He gained the rank of Captain in the Supply and Transport Corps.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was with the Indian Agricultural Department.1
