     Humphrey Willie Best was born on 2 July 1884.¹ He was the son of Hon. Thomas William Best and Harriet Royds Grey.² He married Helen Grace Meakin, daughter of Lewis James Meakin, on 28 July 1914.¹ He died on 29 April 1959 at age 74.¹
     He fought in the First World War.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.¹ He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.¹ He gained the rank of Commodore in 1939.¹ He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1944.¹

     Lewis James Meakin lived at Ashby-de-la-Zouche, Leicestershire, England.¹
