     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders.1

     John Roderick Charles Herbert-Spottiswoode was born on 10 February 1882.1 He was the son of Charles James Herbert and Helen Spottiswoode.1 He married, firstly, Evelyn Anne Venables Kyrke, daughter of Richard H. Venables Kyrke, on 30 June 1906.1 He and Evelyn Anne Venables Kyrke were divorced in 1915.1 He married, secondly, Hylda Marjorie Venables Kyrke, daughter of Colonel Arthur Venables Kyrke, in June 1915.1 He married, thirdly, Hylda Florence Twist on 26 January 1933.2 He died in 1946.2
     He was given the name of John Roderick Charles Herbert at birth.1 In 1900 his name was legally changed to John Roderick Charles Herbert-Spottiswoode by the Lord Lyons on succeeding to his great-aunt Lady Scott-Spottiswoode.1 He gained the rank of Temporary Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He lived at Spottiswoode, Gordon, Berwickshire, Scotland.1

     Evelyn Anne Venables Kyrke was born on 22 October 1883.2 She was the daughter of Richard H. Venables Kyrke.1 She married John Roderick Charles Herbert-Spottiswoode, son of Charles James Herbert and Helen Spottiswoode, on 30 June 1906.1 She and John Roderick Charles Herbert-Spottiswoode were divorced in 1915.1 She died on 19 August 1948 at age 64.1
     From 30 June 1906, her married name became Herbert-Spottiswoode.1
