     John de Courcy Ling was born on 14 October 1933.2 He was the son of Arthur Norman Ling and Veronica de Courcy.2 He married Jennifer Rosemary Haynes in 1959.2 He died on 10 November 2005 at age 72 at Villefranche-sur-Mer, France.3
     He was educated at King Edward Grammar School, Birmingham, Warwickshire, EnglandG.2 He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)2 He fought in the Cyprus Campaign between 1957 and 1958.2 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1958 in the Royal Ulster Rifles.2 He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1958 and 1977.2 He held the office of Member of the European Parliament (M.E.P.) between 1979 and 1989, for Midlands Central.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1990.2
