     He was educated at Radley College, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 30th Lancers, Indian Army.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 3rd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment.1
