     Captain John David Hope was born on 10 August 1923 at Kensington, London, England.1 He was the son of Lt.-Cdr. Richard Henry Kenard Hope and Hon. Margaret Lucy Atkin.1 He married Margaret Daphne Boulwood, daughter of Rear-Admiral Laurence Boulwood, on 22 December 1956 at Talland Church, Looe, Cornwall, England.1 He died on 14 March 2005 at age 81 at Redhill, Surrey, England.1
     He was commissioned on 1 January 1942 with the rank of Cadet, in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Midshipman on 1 September 1942.1 He gained the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 20 November 1944.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1945.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October 1952.1 He gained the rank of Commander on 30 June 1957.1 He gained the rank of Captain on 31 December 1964.1 He retired from the military on 30 April 1971.1
