He was the son of Friedrich Wilhelm Hermann Otto Karl VI Fürst zu Wied and Pauline Olga Helene Emma Prinzessin von Württemberg. He married Maria Antonia Gräfin zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, daughter of Charles Graf zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, on 29 April 1930. He died on 5 November 1941 at age 42 at Reseszow, Poland.
     Hermann Wilhelm Friedrich Prinz zu Wied gained the title of Prinz zu Wied.
