     William Meux was born circa 1530. He was the son of Richard Mewes and Dorothy Cooke. He married Elinor Strangways, daughter of Sir Henry Strangways. He died on 5 March 1589.
     He lived at Kingston, Isle of Wight, England. He was also known as William Mewes. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Newtown in 1584.
